New online magazine now accepting writing/art submissions!
(moderators: if this isn't allowed, please delete with my apologies)

an online magazine of Science Fiction & Fantasy with a twist

Crossed Genres (crossedgenres) is a new online magazine inspired by an altered version of the Genre Challenge (genrechallenge).

Every month, Crossed Genres posts a new genre. Writers and artists have one month to submit stories and art that combine the chosen genre with some aspect of Science Fiction and/or Fantasy. All submissions are considered for publication (read the submission guidelines.) Crossed Genres will also contain interviews, and articles about the current genre, SF/F in general and the craft and business of writing. The Magazine is free! Please sign up to get the mailing list!

We also have a growing list of writer-related links (suggest a new one!), forums discussing all aspects of writing, and more!

So please visit the website, and sign up for the mailing list! The first genre has been posted and is accepting submissions for Issue #1, to be released December 1. Please consider making a submission!

Two sketches.
Bought some markers today, so here are two quick sketches:
24.60 КБ
21.10 КБ

UPD.: I noticed that BOOM is a known brand of markers incedentally it's logo also drawn in bubble letters, maybe even blue! It is pure coincidence as I drew with Centropen, Carioca and something else (but not BOOM) and needed some sound effect to draw.

The results of sketching, and then inking, and more inking, and then lettering.
Cut for huge pictureCollapse )

A tribute to one man's war against an inflatable empire of evil, Rogue Trooper from the British 2000AD comic, as rendered by me.

I produce around like... one piece of finished artwork every three months. This is a glacial pace. I'd like to see more people sketching, rather than me just coming around every now and then to shame you.

Hello all! New picture. Composed it from five different sketches. Didn`t bother much cleaning outlines, and jpeg compression which I used this time to reduce size still would ruin the work.

I`m a little bit used to clear spaceship designs, and currently experience slight shift of interest towards more organic artwork of (in most extreme case) Moebius (which I still don`t really like) and some 70`s prog-rock cover artists (which I REALLY like). Haven`t studied them or copied yet, though. First attempt to present my version of this style is here. All sketches were drawn specially for this pic.

Hope you`ll be more sketch-wise productive this year.

And more.
Maybe you encountered at some time Battletech books of some kind. Editions, which I have are featuring sketches of robots - basicaly they are renditions of Macross mecha toys done by some artist signing his works LOOSE (BTW, if you know his full/real name - please let me know). I always wanted to draw something in his style but slightly more dramatic, so I simply decided literally to put Design X (one of my earlier starships) on the legs. Second picture came soon after first and it is completely different style to LOOSE`s. Looks like it is my first mecha in this community.

Star Standard
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Hello, fellas, I`m back in the game! Here`s my latest sketch - finished it few minutes ago. Called it Star Standard - spaceship with which you`l look adequately if arriving at any time, and on any planet it will not look cheesy - something well respected middleclass creature may have. Like it/hate it? - please comment.

Also I commented on Trul`s entry.

Some Q`s.

Wooossh! Zzap! Zzap!

I have three questions:

1) What is your definition of sci-fi sketch or sketch in this community, how broad it is?
2) Also I plan to start a community, something where every user can choose sci-fi artwork (not his own, cower of the book usually) which he think everybody will be interested to see - that`s the method of maintaining high quality of submitted material - what you think on it?
3) And, as always, - what you think of presented pics?

Two recent sketches you may want to comment:

Black Destroyer
Image behind cutCollapse )

Coeurl, a race of sentient space aliens which resemble panthers with tentacles coming from their shoulders. They also have tufts of hairs, instead of ears, which are sensitive to and can manipulate electromagnetic energy. This is the scene from A. E. van Vogt's Black Destroyer, in which coeurl make their first appearance. The poor explorer, caught unaware, wont even have time to fire his atomic atomizer ray.

A new sketch
Hey there, nonsketching members. I just finished this.

It's the X-Men's nemisis Apocalypse, who I thought would be in the X-Men3 movie, because like... the story arc where there is a "cure" for mutants is one of his arcs, isn't it? Oh well, its probably for the best. He's super cheezy, but you have to love him. As an American I just know that some guy with his initials on his belt buckle is going to be the one who destroys the world. Hello! Two pictures, may be not so great, but I try to draw objects at different angles, or everything will look the same. Click to minimize.

I used pencils this time and it`s currently hard for me to make clean picture by these gadgets. Why? I think it`s simple - when you draw by pencil, you think that you always have a second chance, that you can correct picture by rubber. So, you, based on this long lasted presumption, drawing less conscious, thinking less on your next step.

I joined a bit back, but I've been too lazy to scan some of my stuff.

AH! But then I got this as a graduation present:

Orgasmic does not begin to cover it.

Anyways, here's a small version of what's under the cut (produced purely using the screen of my new baby). It might not be the best art out there, but it's the first art I've ever drawn by hand AND electronically. And I LIKE it! Using the tools on a tablet PC, I can paste and vary at my liesure, it's so much more rewarding than having to go back to square one each time I wanted to try a little theme and variation!
